A Bradley County man found unresponsive in jail Thursday after a fight has died at Erlanger hospital in Chattanooga, according to the Bradley County Sheriff's Office.

Billy Joe Rogers died today, the news release from sheriff's office spokesman James Bradford said. He provided no other information.

Rogers was being held on a charge of failure to appear in Criminal Court, Bradford said earlier. He faced three felony charges of allowing his dogs to run loose and maul a woman in May 2015.

The sheriff's office said Rogers was found unresponsive Thursday afternoon after fighting with another inmate. Corrections officers performed CPR until emergency medical personnel arrived and took him to the hospital.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation is looking into the incident at the request of 10th Judicial District Attorney Steve Crump. It's standard procedure to seek an independent investigation when someone dies while in law enforcement custody.
