Rhea grand jury issues indictment in shaken baby case

The man held on child abuse charges in a suspected battered baby case was indicted Tuesday by the Rhea County grand jury in Dayton, Tenn.

Rhea County grand jurors issued an indictment Tuesday charging Jesse Lynn Wyatt, 24, of Cumberland County, Tenn., with aggravated child abuse and aggravated child neglect and endangerment. The case was presented to the grand jury on Monday.

Wyatt was served the indictment at the Rhea County Jail where he remains held on an increased bond of $250,000. Wyatt faces an arraignment in Criminal Court on Friday. His bond could be discussed during the hearing.

The 7-month-old victim is being treated at Vanderbilt Medical Center in Nashville for injuries she received in the Feb. 23 incident, according to Rhea County Sheriff's Office investigator Rocky Potter.

Potter said on Monday that the baby has "made a little bit of progress," and is now out of the intensive care unit.
