The Roper appliance plant in Lafayette, Ga., will conduct a job fair in Rossville on Fridayto recruit 100 new workers to replace existing employees expected to retire or quit this year.
The recruitment fair is scheduled from 3-5 p.m. Friday at the Rossville Athletic Center, at 301 Williams St.
"This is our first job fair in Rossville," Roper spokesman Scott Reece said. "We are not adding new jobs to the plant, but with attrition we're looking at coming up about a hundred jobs in the coming months."
Roper employs about 1,800 workers at its Lafayette appliance plant, which manufactures a variety of oven and other cooking appliances under the GE and GE profile brands for the Haier Group, the Chinese appliance giant that acquired GE Appliances last year for $5.4 billion.
The Georgia Department of Labor, which is conducting the job fair, said the starting pay for the production workers at the Roper plant start at $12.65 an hour.
Due to U.S. Occupational Safety and Health (OSHA) regulations, all applicants for the Roper jobs must be at least 18 years old. While no previous manufacturing experience is required, all applicants must have a high school diploma, or General Education Diploma (GED), Georgia labor officials said.
