Old and new favorites and extra perks for series subscribers mark the second season of Broadway at the Tivoli, a six-show run of Broadway touring productions at the Tivoli Theatre.

"The Sound of Music" will open the series in late October, and it will close with a literal bang with "Stomp" in May 2018. Along the way are the musically rich productions "Kinky Boots" in December, "Rodgers & Hammerstein's Cinderella" in January, "Jersey Boys" in March and "Motown the Musical" in April.

The Tivoli Foundation, which does fundraising to promote and maintain the Tivoli Theatre and Memorial Auditorium, successfully introduced the series last year. In addition to bringing in Broadway shows, the series offers differing subscription levels with a variety of extras for patrons, including VIP parking and members-only events.

"The launch of the inaugural Broadway at the Tivoli was a tremendous success, both for the theater and downtown," says Nick Wilkinson with the Tivoli Theatre Foundation.

"Not only did our patrons have a premier Broadway experience, the neighboring businesses and community experienced a reinvigorated downtown climate on show nights. We are thrilled to build on the success of the first season and continue putting the Tivoli on the map as a destination for some of the highest-quality Broadway entertainment in the South."

Wilkinson says all of the shows last year made money and there were several sold out shows, as well. He says the foundation had hoped to maybe sell around 500 subscriptions and ended up almost doubling that number. That includes full season and customizable packages, where patrons bought only the shows they wanted.

"We still have some amazing seats available," he says. "It just shows there is a demand for this kind of high-quality entertainment."

The Friends of the Tivoli membership program allows regular patrons the chance to take advantage of special events, ticket presale opportunities, VIP parking and other benefits. In addition to these members-only perks, a tax-deductible Friends of the Tivoli contribution also helps ensure that vibrant theatrical and performing arts remain at the Tivoli Theatre and Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Auditorium, producers say.

Subscription packages for Friends of the Tivoli go on sale today at 10 a.m. through the box office. Regular subscriptions for the season go on sale Monday at 10 a.m. To purchase, call the Tivoli Theatre box office at 423-757-5580 or visit the box office in person at 709 Broad St. Hours are 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday through Friday.

New this year are three package options in which subscribers can enjoy all six titles or customize a package of four or five titles. Patrons who subscribe on a yearly basis get to choose their seats and can keep them from year to year.

Additional subscription benefits include reduced ticket prices compared to single ticket purchases, early notification of the next year's season, free same-show ticket exchanges and the opportunity to purchase additional tickets before they go on sale to the general public.

The story of Maria and the von Trapp Family continues to win over fans with its blend of story and familiar songs from its Tony-, Grammy- and Academy Award-winning best score, including "My Favorite Things," "Edelweiss" and the title song. The film version, starring Julie Andrews, celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2015. "The Sound of Music Live!" was seen by more than 44 million people when it aired on NBC in December 2013.

  • Dec. 12-14: "Kinky Boots"

Grammy and Tony-winning pop singer Cyndi Lauper provided the music in this uplifting musical celebration about friendship and the belief that you can change the world when you change your mind. Inspired by true events, the story goes from a gentlemen's shoe factory in Northampton, England, to the glamorous catwalks of Milan, Italy. "Kinky Boots" won six Tony Awards, including Best Musical, Best Score and Best Choreography.

  • Jan. 26-28: "Rodgers & Hammerstein's Cinderella"

This lush production features an incredible orchestra, jaw-dropping transformations and all the signature moments - the pumpkin, the glass slipper, the masked ball - plus some surprising new twists. Longtime fans will be transported back to their childhood beloved songs such as "In My Own Little Corner," "Impossible/It's Possible" and "Ten Minutes Ago."

  • March 9-11: "Jersey Boys"

The 2006 Tony, Grammy and Olivier Award-winning Best Musical is about Rock and Roll Hall of Famers The Four Seasons. It's the true story of how four blue-collar kids - Frankie Valli, Bob Gaudio, Tommy DeVito and Nick Massi - became one of the greatest successes in pop-music history. They wrote their own songs, invented their own sounds and sold 175 million records worldwide, all before they were 30.

  • April 17-19: "Motown the Musical"

It's the true American dream story of Motown founder Berry Gordy's journey from featherweight boxer to the heavyweight music mogul who launched the careers of Diana Ross, Michael Jackson, Smokey Robinson and many more. It is also the celebration of music that shaped a generation. The musical features classic songs such as "My Girl" and "Ain't No Mountain High Enough."

  • May 11-12: "Stomp"

Described as explosive, provocative, sophisticated, sexy, utterly unique and appealing to audiences of all ages, the percussion sensation earned an armful of awards and rave reviews and has appeared on numerous national television shows. The eight-member troupe uses everything from matchboxes, wooden poles, brooms to garbage cans, Zippo lighters and hubcaps to fill the room with sounds and rhythms.
