A weapon was found in a student's vehicle Wednesday at East Hamilton Middle High School after other students alerted the school resource officer and administrators.
It's not clear what type of weapon was found, but no threats were made to the school at any time.
The students who alerted school officials learned about the possibility of a weapon being on school grounds from social media, Tim Hensley, spokesman for Hamilton County Department of Education, said.
The resource officer searched the vehicle and found the weapon, Hensley said. Everything was handled without incident.
As is standard procedure, the principal sent a message home to parents to let them know of the incident and that no threats were made, Hensley said.
The student who had the weapon is a minor.
