Victim identified in fatal Sequatchie crash that killed one, injured another

A Dunlap, Tenn., man was killed in a three-vehicle crash on State Route 111 in Sequatchie County this morning, according to the Tennessee Highway Patrol.

Dunlap resident David L. Tucker, 41, was pronounced dead at the scene after his 2007 Honda hit a Mack dump truck filled with sand on Lewis Chapel Mountain about 6:25 a.m. CDT Friday, Trooper Sgt. David Roark wrote in his report.

The dump truck driver, Don R. Sims, 44, was traveling in the right lane at a slow rate of speed due to the weight of his load and had his emergency flashers on when Tucker's Honda hit him from behind causing the Honda to spin across both traffic lanes before coming to rest on the median barrier wall, Roark said in the report. Sims was injured but the severity of his injuries was not noted in the report.

A third vehicle, a Honda driven by 26-year-old Dunlap resident William J. Gossett, slid into Tucker's Honda and came to rest on the median barrier wall, too. The trooper said Gossett was uninjured.

All three drivers were wearing seat belts but Roark said it didn't make a difference in the outcome of the wreck. An unspecified citation was issued but there were no criminal charges listed on the report.
