A total of 1,137 local vehicle owners were issued the 'In God We Trust' plate in July and August, according to a Hamilton County Clerk's Office news release.

"More motorists are selecting the 'In God We Trust' license plate," County Clerk Bill Knowles said. "The law requires vehicle owners to request the plate."

"The State law pertaining to the new plate specifies a one-time extra $2 fee when either renewing a current registration or receiving a new plate at the time of title application. Once the $2 fee is paid the plate is renewed in the office annually at the standard $29 renewal fee," Knowles said,

The special plate has only been available for two months.
