FAIRHOPE, Ala. (AP) - Three boys who police say shot and killed a dog with a stolen gun have been arrested.

AL.com reports the boys - ages 15, 12 and 11 - approached a 52-year-old woman as she was walking two dogs in her yard Sunday, and the 15-year-old shot one dog with a shotgun. The three boys fled the scene.

The dog died from its injuries. Fairhope police say the woman wasn't injured, but was standing close to her leashed pets when the dog was shot.

Police later found and arrested the boys, and recovered the rifle, which was stolen from a residence.

Each boy is facing a felony cruelty to animals charge and misdemeanor reckless endangerment charge. Investigators say they may face theft of firearms charges once the shotgun's owner is identified.
