A Northwest Whitfield County High School teacher acted bizarrely Wednesday morning, so much so that a co-worker alerted administrators.

According to a news release from Whitfield County Schools, English teacher Raquel Eleana Spencer's bosses then escorted her to the front office. A school resource officer asked to search her. She said yes. The officer then found some heroin.

In a statement, Communications Specialist Eric Beavers said Superintendent Judy Gilreath will recommend Spencer be fired. She was at the Whitfield County Jail without bond on Wednesday evening, held on a charge of possession of heroin. She will likely appear before a magistrate today, when a judge can set a bond for her.

If Spencer gets out, Beavers said, school officials will put her on administrative leave, keeping her out of the classroom.

A Northwest Whitfield County High School student handbook lists Spencer as an assistant coach for the cheerleading and track and field teams, as well as a sponsor of the Sweetheart Dance.
