FBI searching for suspect who shot at Knoxville officer

The FBI and the Knoxville Police Department are offering up to a $5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the man who fired shots at a Knoxville Police Officer last month.

On July 17 at about 2:40 a.m., Officer Dean Ray heard an audible alarm coming from a restaurant.

As Ray approached the business, he saw someone flee the building and get into a silver Mercury Mountaineer - later determined to be stolen - which sped away from the parking lot.

Officers chased the vehicle. The suspect fired at least two shots at Ray during the pursuit; he was not injured.

The stolen car was recovered, but the suspect is believed to have stolen another vehicle - a black 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 pickup truck. The paint on the truck is peeling at several spots, uncovering a red color beneath the black paint.

The suspect is described as a white man with short, light-colored hair, last seen wearing a black tank top and blue jeans.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Knoxville Police Department at 865-215-7212 or the FBI's Knoxville Field Office at 865-544-0751.
