A Grundy County, Tennessee sheriff's investigator fired his weapon after being dragged down the street by a suspect's fleeing vehicle, county Sheriff Clint Shrum stated in a news release.
The late-evening incident occurred in Coffee County after the on-duty investigator stopped to check on what appeared to be a minor crash or stranded motorists, the sheriff said.
He said an altercation ensued and the investigator tried to detain a male suspect. The man fled in a vehicle, dragging the investigator down the road, and the investigator fired his weapon.
No suspect had not been arrested as of noon Wednesday. The deputy was treated at a local hospital and released, the sheriff said.
The Coffee County Sheriff's Office is investigating the incident.
