CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (AP) - Defense lawyers have rested their case in the federal trial involving four former Pilot Flying J employees facing charges in a scheme to shortchange trucking customers on fuel rebates.
The Knoxville News-Sentinel reports jurors should begin deliberating next week in the trial of former Pilot president Mark Hazelwood, former vice president Scott "Scooter" Wombold and two former sales staffers, Heather Jones and Karen Mann.
U.S. District Judge Curtis Collier says closing arguments should start Monday and deliberations could begin Wednesday. The trial started in November.
Pilot Flying J is controlled by the family of Cleveland Browns owner Jimmy Haslam and Tennessee Gov. Bill Haslam. The Haslams haven't been charged with any wrongdoing. The governor has not been involved in the company in recent years.
