SAVANNAH, Ga. (AP) - President Donald Trump has chosen a Georgia sheriff and a former police chief to fill vacant U.S. marshal posts in the state.
The White House said in a news release Trump is nominating Monroe County Sheriff John Cary Bittick for the position of U.S. marshal for the Middle District of Georgia. Bittick has served as sheriff for 35 years and is a past president of the Georgia Sheriff's Association and the National Sheriff's Association.
David Lyons is Trump's pick for the post of U.S. marshal for the Southern District of Georgia. Lyons recently retired after serving 15 years as police chief of Garden City west of Savannah. Before that he worked as police chief in the Georgia cities of Zebulon and Woodstock, and served 17 years as an Army officer.
