A Chickamauga man told investigators Thursday afternoon that an unidentified woman shot him in the groin.

According to a release from the Walker County Sheriff's Office, the 44-year-old victim said a woman walked into a house in the 200 block of Wallaceville School Road and shot him. Sheriff Steve Wilson said the bullet missed the man's genitals and exited out his buttocks.

The man told investigators he didn't know the woman. He described her as slender, with sandy blond hair. He said she left in a silver, four-door car.

The man reported the shooting to the sheriff's office at 12:45 p.m. Melody Day, superintendent of Chickamauga City Schools, said the elementary school and Gordon Lee Middle School entered a "soft lockdown" once administrators got word of a shooter at-large.

The elementary school canceled recess, while the middle school kept eighth-graders inside during a scheduled break. Wilson said at 6 p.m. Thursday that he had no updates to report on the case.
