A sophomore on the Tennessee football team was charged with domestic assault and false imprisonment on Sunday night.

Ryan Thaxton, a linebacker and defensive lineman, was arrested by the University of Tennessee Police Department and booked into the Knox County Jail, according to a Knox County Sheriff's Office spokesperson.

Thaxton made a $1,500 bond and was released Monday morning, according to the spokesperson.

A team spokesperson released a statement Monday on the matter.

"We are aware of the incident," the statement said. "The student-athlete has been suspended from all team activities while law enforcement and the university investigates."

Originally from Alexandria, Virginia, Thaxton did not appear in any games as a true freshman in 2017. He was considered a three-star prospect coming out of high school.

This is a developing story.
