Greens taunt VW in 'Force' ad spoof

The environmental group Greenpeace is hitting Volkswagen's record and using a parody of the popular "The Force" Super Bowl ad that featured the Chattanooga-made Passat.

Greenpeace said the German automaker is opposing carbon dioxide cuts in Europe, and the group is running its own video on the Internet.

The VW ad featured a mini-Darth Vader, who appeared in Chattanooga for the local plant's grand opening in May. In the Greenpeace spoof of the ad, Jedi tree huggers, including Yoda, take a direct shot at VW, blaming the company for trying to destroy the world with a VW-branded Death Star.

VW has been lobbying against cuts to carbon emissions in Europe and has lagged behind competitors in reducing emissions from new models, Greenpeace said.

VW officials say the $1 billion Chattanooga plant is environmentally friendly and is aiming for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design status.
