The Better Business Bureau has a better way to do its own business in its new North Chattanooga office.
The BBB will show off the two-story office it bought in March at an open house 3-6 p.m. Tuesday. The event will also help celebrate the 100th anniversary of the start of the Better Business Bureau national movement.
The local BBB acquired the 35-year-old building at 508 North Market Street from the Hamilton County Baptist Association, which relocated last year to the Baptist Children's Home on Lee Highway.
"This gives us more room, parking and visibility," said Jim Winsett, president of the Chattanooga's BBB.
The local Better Business Bureau, which was started in Chattanooga in 1960, has rented office space downtown on Market Street for the past quarter century. The 5,000-square-foot office is about a third bigger than the previous BBB facility.
"This organization plays a vital role in helping businesses and consumers, and this office over the long term should be a better and more cost-efficient way for us to operate," said David Houseman, a retired business consultant who chairs the 28-member BBB board.
The BBB in Chattanooga provides reports about and handles consumer complaints for about 35,000 businesses that operate in the 11 counties in Southeast Tennessee and 10 counties in Northwest Georgia served by the local group.
Chattanooga's BBB, one of 114 such local BBB chapters, has about 2,000 members.
