Volkswagen's Chattanooga assembly plant has upped production to 610 new Passat sedans a day.
"We're heading for more in the next year," Detlev Hoge, VW's director of manufacturing, said Wednesday at the Chattanooga Regional Manufacturers Association annual meeting. The VW plant is on track to produce 150,000 vehicles this year. Hoge said the 3,300 workers at the facility boast "a passion for detail and quality."
Dan Nuckolls of Chattanooga poultry processor Koch Foods on Wednesday was presented the highest citation Wednesday from the Chattanooga Regional Manufacturing Association.
Nuckolls, a former association president with more than 30 years of experience in manufacturing, was presented the C.D. Mitchell Award, which is named for the founder of the 110-year-old Chattanooga manufacturing association.
BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee has received the Alfred P. Sloan award for workplace effectiveness and flexibility from the Families and Work Institute and the Society for Human Resource Management.
BlueCross, the biggest private employer in Chattanooga, uses flextime, part-time work and compressed workweeks to provide flexibility for employees and the company. Nearly one of every five workers for BlueCross works from home.
