Hamilton County has maintained its top bond rating with the Fitch, Moody's and Standard & Poor's rating agencies. Hamilton County is the only county in Tennessee to have to top AAA rating.

"Given the county's exceptionally strong balance sheet position, the county's financial position is expected to remain strong and well in excess of the county general fund balance policy," Fitch said in its new assessment of Hamilton County finances.

Hamilton County Mayor Jim Coppinger said the top ratings will help keep interest rates lower when the county borrows more money this year.

"These have been difficult financial times and our adherence to conservative fiscal governance allows us to be the only county in Tennessee to achieve this coveted AAA ranking from all three rating agencies," he said. "This allows us to do more with our money for Hamilton County and its citizens in the months to come."
