VW sales rise in U.S. in June

Volkswagen of America today reported sales rose 5.6 percent in June from a year ago to 30,436 vehicles on the strength of its Golf and Jetta units and its Tiguan SUV.

"We continue to see strong results from the Golf family, delivering the best June in 15 years," said Mark McNabb, chief operating officer for Volkswagen of America.

In June, Golf family sales totaled 6,145 units while the Jetta recorded sales of 10,944, up 8.3 percent for the month.

But, the Chattanooga-built Passat totaled 6,984 units delivered for June, down 3.3 percent.

Tiguan sales were 2,604 units, marking a 7.8 percent increase over the previous June.
