Chattanooga area home sales rise 12.8 percent

Home sales in the Chattanooga area last month were up 12.8 percent over a year ago, although the median pirice of local homes sold in February slipped from last year's level.

The Greater Chattanooga Association of Realtors said its members sold 61 more homes last moth than in February 2014. The median price of the 539 single-family units sold in February was $135,00, or 1.4 percent less than the median price of $136,950 a year ago.

So far this year, home sales are 9.3 percent ahead of a year ago.

"These are good times, indeed, and many of us now have an enchanting shared experience that we can walk uphill to school both ways," the local Realtors group said in assessing February home sales.

The average number of days that homes for sale are on the market in Chattanooga fell by 22.2 percent to 98 days. Sellers were encouraged as the montly supply of housing inventory was down 29.4 percent to six months.
