OAK RIDGE - It's a high-tech laundromat with some $1 million worth of washers, driers and sophisticated filters, and it celebrated recycling its 1 millionth gallon of radioactive water Monday.

Smoky Mountain Solutions hosted the celebration, attended by U.S. Rep. John J. Duncan Jr. and officials from Roane and Anderson counties, in the World War II-vintage 1036 Building at East Tennessee Technology Park. The firm's 20,000-square-foot laundromat is located in the former maintenance shop of the long-abandoned uranium enrichment facility.

Smoky Mountain Solutions receives hazmat suits and respirators - called personal protective equipment in the nuclear industry - and cleans and decontaminates them.
