VW replaces head of U.S. legal department

Volkswagen is replacing the head of its legal department in the U.S. with an outside lawyer, according to The Wall Street Journal.

Effective Feb. 1, David Detweiler, an attorney from the law firm Clifford Chance, replaced David Geanacopoulos as Volkswagen of America Group Inc.'s chief legal counsel.

Previously, Geanacopoulos served both as Volkswagen's head of legal and public affairs. In his new role, Mr. Geanacopoulos will focus on government relations.

Detweiler, while at Clifford Chance, had advised the car maker.
