- Site size: 65 acres.
- Scope of project: TDOT, which operates four regional centers across the state, is building a new materials and testing facility, a new regional administration building, a salt and sand storage facility and a regional garage to service all state-owned vehicles. TDOT regional spokeswoman Jennifer Flynn said the new complex is located adjacent to the Transportation Management System facility that TDOT built on Volkswagen Drive in 2015 after relocating that facility from Lookout Valley.
- Reason for the move: "We're very excited about moving into more modern and efficient buildings and to have more space than where we are now," Flynn said. "Our current facilities were built starting in the 1950s, and we've simply outgrown them." The new location is more accessible to Interstate 75. "All of our other regional facilities (in Knoxville, Nashville and Jackson) are located near interstate highways."
- Staff: About 150 employees will be stationed in the new facilities.
- Schedule: The administration building should be ready for occupancy in late summer or early fall, and the entire complex should be complete by the end of 2017.
