Chattanooga Now Cleveland museum accepting quilt entries

December 30th, 2011 by Staff Report in Chattanooga Now - Art

Starting Tuesday, the Museum Center at Five Points will accept submissions of contemporary and antique quilts for its upcoming "Stitches-in-Time" exhibit.

Quilts may be dropped off at the museum 10 a.m.-5 p.m. weekdays and 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturdays through Jan. 14.

This year the museum will be accepting two quilts per person, but the number of entries for the main exhibit will be capped at 120.

The 2012 exhibit will open Jan. 26 and run through March 10. For easy hanging, participants are asked to have a 4-inch sleeve either sewn or pinned to the back top of their quilt (does not necessarily apply to antique quilts).

Award categories: Quilts will be judged before the exhibit opens by a guest judge in the following categories: Best of Show Large Contemporary, Best of Show Small Contemporary, Best of Show Antique, Best Duet (Two-Person) Quilt, Best Group Quilt and Best Use of Color & Design.

A Viewers Choice Award will be voted on by visitors and announced at the close of the exhibit.

Appalachian Quilt Trail Challenge: To celebrate the area's quilting heritage, quilters are asked to submit a small quilt or wall hanging that is inspired by one of the quilt blocks on the Appalachian Quilt Trail in Bradley County. Instituted in 2010, Bradley's portion of the trail features 12 wooden quilt squares on barns and places of business. Cash prizes of $100, $75 and $50 will be awarded. Quilt submissions can range in size, but the sum of all sides must be less than 240 inches.
