A simple ceremony that gets commandeered by four well-meaning, marriage-minded strangers sets "Wedding Belles" into motion. The heartwarming Southern comedy will be presented over the next two weekends by the Walker County Community Theater, the resident company of the Walker County Civic Center.

The story follows the efforts of four, strong-willed Southern belles who take a naive young bride-to-be under their wing as she waits to meet her fiancé. The play is set during World War II and takes place at a house in a small town in Texas.

Three women, Bobrita, Violet and Glendine, have arrived for the Eufala Springs Garden Club meeting, but their friend Laura Lee has a surprise in store.

She has just met a young, orphaned bride-to-be at the bus station and has insisted she come to her house to rest while she waits on her bus.

As events unfold, the group learns Ima Jean is waiting for her beloved, Jesse, so they can get married at the courthouse before he ships out the next day. They insist a courthouse wedding just won't do and immediately take control of the situation.

The play will be presented Friday and Saturday nights through May 14, with a special Mother's Day matinee on Sunday that includes a wedding reception/tea party with the cast. Door prizes will be awarded.
