'Always, Patsy Cline' at Athens Community Theater

Athens Community Theater will present "Always, Patsy Cline," a musical by Ted Swindley, over the next two weekends at The Arts Center in Athens, Tenn. Tickets for opening night, a dinner-theater presentation on Friday, Feb. 15, have sold out.

"Always, Patsy Cline" is based on the true story of the country singer's friendship with Houston housewife Louise Segar. Louise befriended the star in a honky-tonk in 1961, and they continued their correspondence until Cline's death in a private plane crash in March 1963.

The production features 27 of Cline's hits, including "Crazy," "I Fall to Pieces," "Sweet Dreams" and "Walking After Midnight." The role of Patsy Cline will be played by Melonie Carideo, and Kendra Johnson will play Louise.

Playing in the live band onstage will be David Ledbetter (piano), Matt Dannel (drums), Andrew Kimball (lead guitar), Oneta Wright (acoustic guitar), Bill Paisley (steel pedal guitar), Joe Littleton (bass guitar) and Tim Collins (fiddle). Ellen Kimball is directing.

Performances are at 7:30 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and at 2 p.m. Sundays through Feb. 24. Tickets are $15 for adults, $8 for students, with one exception. Friday, Feb. 22, has been designated Best Friends Forever Night, and BFFs purchasing two tickets receive a $3 discount on each ticket.

Tickets are available online at www.athensartscouncil.org, by phone at 423-745-8781 or at The Arts Center, 320 N. White St.
