Typically considered "a challenge to the conventions of traditional forms of visual art such as painting and sculpture," performance art, producers say, borrows styles and ideas from other forms of art or sometimes from other forms of activity not associated with art, such as ritual or work-like tasks.

Friday's event will feature emerging and prominent artists who live and work in the South and are known for pushing the boundaries of the medium.

In the lineup are Aaron Cowan, Eleanor Epstein, Kayla Cloonan, Adam Kirby, Jessica Scott-Felder, Monica Taylor and Kyle Wood. Doors open at 6, and performances will start at 6:30. Admission is $5. For more information, visit thecinerama.org.
