River Gallery marks 25th anniversary

Although a 25th anniversary is traditionally silver, River Gallery its celebrating its 25th year with "Little Jewels."

"Little Jewels" anniversary exhibit will open with a free reception on Friday, Aug. 4, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the gallery, 400 E. Second St. Artists Ed Cook, Victoria Pearmain and Mary Lynn Portera, whose work is featured in the gallery's August exhibit, will be present.

Works included in the exhibit are miniature paintings by Cook, oil paintings by Pearmain and ceramics made by Portera. Each artist in the exhibit had an early connection to River Gallery 25 years ago, with Portera exhibiting in the inaugural show.

Visitors are encouraged to arrive early Friday and watch as Cook presents a painting demonstration from 1 to 4 p.m. Visitors are welcome to ask questions and learn more about the process of painting miniatures.

Joe Parrott will join Pearmain on Saturday, Aug. 5, from 10 a.m. to noon for a plein air demonstration at the gallery. Visitors are encouraged to meet the artists and watch them paint scenes from the Bluff View Art District.

Gallery hours are 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Saturday, 1-5 p.m. Sunday.
