Christopher Groves, an artist and visiting instructor at Townsend Atelier, will speak on the creative process on Friday, June 23, at 6 p.m. at the studio, 301 E. 11th St. in the Arts Building.

"Moving Outside Your Comfort Zone" will use slides to illustrate how artists progress, and their creative intentions over a specific number of years, in order to analyze change and what may have occurred in the way they paint.

Groves will get into the mindset of artists to see what pushes them outside their comfort zone, as well as various things artists can do to move beyond the way they have been painting for years, while utilizing the same set of skills.

Groves studied at the Florence Academy of Art in Italy and the CAA Atelier Colorado-Classical Academy, where he was lead landscape instructor from 2004 to 2008. He also has a bachelor of fine arts degree in environmental design/architecture from Colorado University.

He is a member of Oil Painters of America, American Impressionist Society, American Society of Marine Artists and Plein Air Painters of the Southeast. He has received numerous awards for his work and has exhibited world-wide.

His talk is free and open to the public.
