The next installment of Callback Company's cabaret series will merge costumes with musical performances at the Cosplay Cabaret, taking place Friday, Oct. 20, at 7 p.m. in City Auditorium of Rome, Ga.
Performers and patrons alike are invited to dress in costumes from pop culture, whether familiar or obscure, and come enjoy live music.
Performer Lauren Campbell, of North Paulding High School, will cosplay as The Diva from the 1997 science-fiction film, "The Fifth Element," and will perform the "impossible aria" from the movie. Jim Gibbons, sound designer at RCA and an award-winning fantasy-cosplay creator, will costume Campbell for her performance.
Callback Company created this cabaret series to give singers and actors of all ages and experience levels the training and performance experience needed to perfect their craft, says Julie Carver, Callback Company founding artistic director.
"When I learned that Jim Gibbons creates these beautiful, intricate cosplay costumes, we thought it would be the perfect theme for our October cabaret," she says.
Performers are given the opportunity to rehearse and get feedback from Carver, who has previously worked on Broadway and in New York as a pianist, vocal coach and audition coach.
Participants are encouraged to be creative with their costume and performance mash-ups. There will be a costume parade at intermission to showcase the craftsmanship of the cosplaying performers and patrons.
Carver recommends that performers bring sheet music or pre-recorded tracks for this event.
Tickets are $10 general admission, $20 premium seating. Tickets can be purchased in advance at callbackcompany.com or at the door.
