Lunch under $10 at Kobe Hibachi

Drink, sushi specials available

Kobe Hibachi Sushi features a lunch menu with entrées that can be made quickly for busy office workers, are affordable and deliciously prepared to-order by experienced hibachi chefs.

"Our lunch special starts at only $6.95," says manager Copper Lin. "It is the hibachi lunch special that includes a full hibachi meal with soup, salad, fried rice, entrée and everything. They can get hibachi chicken, shrimp and salmon in the restaurant or to-go."

Kobe's lunch menu also allows guests to choose from several combination specials such as steak and shrimp for a few dollars more.

There are also a variety of additional entrées that are equally delicious, such as the bento lunch boxes. These easy-to-order lunches are especially popular with guests sitting in the traditional dining room, where food is not prepared at the table but instead is brought from the kitchen.

Each bento, whether it has shrimp tempura or chicken, steak, shrimp or salmon teriyaki, is served with miso soup, a house salad, four pieces of California roll, white or fried rice and the guest's choice of harumaki spring rolls, gyoza potstickers or shumai dumplings.

"Everything is the same quality that you would get at dinner," Lin says. "At lunch, we increased our servers and kitchen staff to cut down the waiting time for the customer because we have cases where they need to go back to work."

Anyone who has to return to work quickly can order their meal to-go or can sit in the dining room area, where the food quality and service is the same but service time is quicker. Lin notes that the hibachi tables, where the chefs cook food fresh for a number of people at once, have a wait time that can't be rushed.

Guests can also try a variety of fresh sushi rolls during lunch. The two-roll special is $6.95 and the three-roll special is $8.95. For either, guests can choose from a selection of rolls such as the California, Boston, spicy tuna, Alaskan, salmon-cucumber, cucumber-avocado and spicy salmon. For guests who prefer sushi or sashimi, there is a combination lunch with three pieces of sushi, five pieces of sashimi and a salmon roll for $10.95.

The chef's specialty rolls that are most popular include the Snow Mountain, which comes with shrimp tempura on the inside and spicy crunchy crab on the outside. Customers can request if they want it extra spicy hot. The USMC Roll is also a favorite, with shrimp tempura inside and spicy tuna and avocado outside topped with spicy mayonnaise and eel sauce.

Every Monday through Saturday, Kobe features a daily special on alcohol that features $2 beer and

$4 glasses of wine. There is also a sake special every Wednesday all day long, when hot sake is $2 for a small serving and $4 for a large. Those who prefer cold sake can try selections like the Sho Chiku Bai Premium Gingjo sake, which comes in a serving for two for $11.95 per bottle.

"Usually summertime the business slow downs, but this year it has been getting much better," Lin says. "Pricewise and qualitywise we are on the right track, as well as with our service. In a couple more months we will be coming up with a new look for our menu and maybe some new entrées.
