You can test that theory on National Doughnut Day, Friday, June 7. Area Krispy Kreme and Dunkin' Donuts shops are taking part, as are Chattanooga's two Tasty Daylight Donuts locations.
At Krispy Kreme, 5609 Brainerd Road, visitors can get a free doughnut of any variety, no purchase necessary.
The policy is the same at Tasty Daylight, which has locations at 1414 Jenkins Road in East Brainerd and 841 Chestnut St. in downtown Chattanooga.
At Dunkin' Donuts, the doughnut is free with any beverage purchase. Area shops are at 7647 East Brainerd Road in Chattanooga; 5311 Highway 153, Hixson; 2632 Decatur Pike, Athens, Tenn.; 589 Battlefield Parkway, Fort Oglethorpe; 600 Howard Simmons Road, Ellijay, Ga.; inside the Wilco Hess gas station at 2111 U.S. Highway 41, NE, Calhoun, Ga.; and 12 Shorter Ave., Rome, Ga.
