Ten "stunning" operas scheduled this season at New York's Metropolitan Opera will be presented in The Met: Live in HD series of live transmissions and taped encores at select movie theaters in 2013-14.

Participating sites include the East Ridge 18, 5080 South Terrace, and Hamilton Place 10-17, 2000 Hamilton Place Blvd. Met officials say most theaters will carry all events, and others may be added during the season.

The series opens at 12:55 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 5, with Tchaikovsky's "Eugene Onegin." An encore presentation will be shown at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 9. Running time is about 4 hours.

Anna Netrebko and Mariusz Kwiecien star as the love-struck Tatiana and the imperious Onegin in the fateful romance. Deborah Warner's new production is set in the late 19th century and moves episodically from farmhouse to ballroom, with a powerful snowstorm providing the dramatic setting for the finale. Russian maestro Valery Gergiev conducts, and Fiona Shaw directs in her Met debut.

Now in its eighth season, The Met: Live in HD series is projected to reach an audience of 3 million people across 1,900 theaters in 64 countries. Nine other live transmissions and their encores are scheduled the remainder of the season.
