A fan-favorite crooner with CSO audiences returns to Chattanooga Saturday, April 6, for a night of "Simply Swingin'."
Singer Steve Lippia performed with the Chattanooga Symphony & Opera about three years ago, says Executive Director Molly Sasse, calling him a crowd-pleaser. Lippia, a resident of Las Vegas, is nationally known for his interpretations of standards from the American songbook.
"He's probably best known for his Sinatra songs, but this show has more than Sinatra in it," Sasse says.
Saturday night's program will include Broadway classics such as "Almost Like Being in Love" and "On the Street Where You Live," along with pop and swing hits such as "I Left My Heart in San Francisco," "They Can't Take That Away From Me" and "Mack the Knife."
Included in Lippia's Sinatra selections will be "My Way," "Come Fly With Me," "Luck Be a Lady" and "That's Life."
He'll be backed by a full orchestra, directed by Robert Bernhardt, with the addition of piano, percussion and standup bass to set the swing band mood.
Lippia has performed with more than 60 symphonies in the United States and Canada, according to his website. His appearance at the Tivoli is one of 15 concert performances he'll give this season alone.
