Three college music ensembles present concerts

Southern Adventist University's Symphony Orchestra concludes its season with a concert tonight at Collegedale Seventh-day Adventist Church.

The final Southern Adventist University Symphony Orchestra concert of this season will be presented tonight, April 27, at Collegedale Seventh-day Adventist Church, 4829 College Drive East, Collegedale, Tenn.

Laurie Redmer-Minner will conduct the free concert, which will begin at 7:30 p.m. It can also be viewed online at www.wsmc.streamon.fm.

The concert will feature soloist Kristjon Imperio performing Piano Concerto No. 2 in B-flat major, op. 83 by Johannes Brahms and Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 6 in B minor, op. 74.

Imperio performs extensively as an organist, collaborative pianist and conductor throughout New England. He is a highly sought-after coach, clinician, instructor and soloist.

Imperio founded Bolton Philharmonic Society Inc. in 2008 and served as music director of the organization's community ensemble program (three choirs and one orchestra) until his retirement in 2016. During his eight years with the Philharmonic, he conducted more than 30 performances of choral and orchestral works by Vivaldi, Haydn, Mozart, Chopin, Dvorak, Vierne, Durufle, Vaughan Williams, Hindemith, Barber and Rutter.

He is minister of music for the First Congregational Church of West Boylston Mass., organist at Atlantic Union College Church of Seventh-day Adventists, collaborative pianist and clinician for the Worcester Schubertiade and a faculty member at Anna Maria College in Paxton, Mass.

Tonight, April 27

Covenant College Department of Music will hold its annual Choral Festival at 7 p.m. in Dora Maclellan Brown Memorial Chapel, 14049 Scenic Highway, Lookout Mountain.

The free concert will bring together several Lookout Mountain musical groups for one concert.

Campus groups performing will be the Covenant Singers, directed by Kara Funke; Covenant Chorale, Chamber Singers and Brass Choir, directed by Scott M. Finch; and Jazz Ensemble, directed by James Ward.

They will share the stage with Lookout Mountain Presbyterian Church's Chancel Choir, directed by Joy Gibbons, as well as the Lookout Children's Community Chorus, directed by Scott Finch.

Concertgoers may park on the east side of campus, where they will be shuttled to the chapel by golf carts.
