Las Cafeteras is Spanish for "the coffee makers," and their rise in the music industry is testament they've found the right blend of Afro-Mexican, hip-hop, folk, American Indian and traditional son jarocho (folk music of Veracruz).

Or, as one of their Twitter followers described their sound: hipster Mexicano meets early '90s No Doubt with a powerful voice and message.

Las Cafeteras will headline Nightfall on Friday, July 27, in Miller Plaza. Kindora will open the free concert at 7 p.m. followed by the headliners at 8.

The Chicano band from East Los Angeles, California, started out as students of the Eastside Café, a community spot in Los Angeles, where they took son jarocho classes. Influenced by the music from Veracruz, and eager to teach others about it, they formed their band in 2005.

Thirteen years later they still use music to teach and influence listeners, but now inspiring social change. Their songs have themes and references that range from the civil rights movement to immigration reform.

Las Cafeteras has released three albums; the most recent being "Tastes Like LA" in 2017.

Nightfall is produced by Chattanooga Presents. For more information: nightfallchattanooga. com
