Ruby Velle and the Soulphonics, named Atlanta's best soul band in 2010 and 2011, takes the stage in Miller Plaza on Friday night, May 11, to headline Nightfall, the free summer music concert series held in Miller Plaza.

The band is touring in support of "State of All Things," just released in late April, and its current single "Broken Woman."

Ruby Velle and the Soulphonics have been described as "the heirs to the thrones of the old-school masters." But they're much more than a group of revivalists. They bring classic sounds back to life with a fresh, contemporary sheen.

Featuring soulful lead vocals and a full horn section, Ruby Velle and the Soulphonics make '50s and '60s-style R&B. The group has shared bills with megastars and indie acts alike, including The Temptations, Iggy Pop, Erykah Badu, Goodie Mob, Gary Clark Jr., Animal Collective, Feist, Bush, The Wailers, Dumpstaphunk and Kendrick Lamar.

Opening at 7 p.m. will be Function, which also plays old-school funk, blues, jazz, rock and R&B.
