The world's longest pedestrian bridge will play host to more than 300 wines from more than 100 wineries from around the world during the annual Wine Over Water festival Saturday night on the Walnut Street Bridge.

The event raises funds for Cornerstones, a nonprofit historic preservation organization created to preserve the architectural heritage and urban fabric of Chattanooga.

Ticketholders will receive a commemorative wine goblet, fresh-baked breads from Niedlov's and Bluff View Bakery, and a guide of all participating wineries and wines for use on festival day and for future reference. They will be entertained by live music being played over the length of the bridge, and they can sample foods from several local restaurants. There is an extra charge for some of the food items.

Commemorative apparel and artwork also will be on sale throughout the festival.

A private party, Best Cellars, is tonight from 5:30 to 7:30. The $100 tickets must be purchased by noon today. The event at The Chattanoogan, 1201 S. Broad St., will feature 150 premium wines, heavy hors d'oeuvres, live jazz and a silent auction.
