Hikers and bikers on the Tennessee Riverwalk are invited to take in a tennis tournament as they pass by Manker Patten Tennis Club this weekend.

Racquets on the Riverwalk is a way to introduce the club while the Icy Hot Tennessee Valley Open Championships are being played.

"If you, your family or friends have never been to a tennis tournament, or to the U.S. Open in New York City, take this opportunity to experience tennis matches close up," said Sue Chamberlain, the club's director of marketing and communications. "Let it be your U.S. Open experience at the club level."

This year's players are competing for $13,000 in prize money, Chamberlain said.

Last year's winner, Brian Baker, was competing in the French Open this week, she said.

The tournament lasts through Sunday, and strawberries and cream will be served the morning of the finals. Competitions begin each day at 8:30 a.m. and continue throughout the day and evening.

Bike racks are provided, and admission is free. The address is 100 Douglas St.

Spectators are welcome to tour the clubhouse, renovated indoor courts and 13 outdoor courts at Manker Patten, a past recipient of the Outstanding Facility of the Year award by the U.S. Tennis Association.
