Artillery demos at Point Park - July 4

Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park will evoke the ideals behind two separate wars with artillery demonstrations Friday, July 4, inside Point Park, 110 Point Park Road atop Lookout Mountain. The living-history programs will be conducted at 10:30 and 11:30 a.m., 1:30, 2:30 and 3:30 p.m. Admission is $3 for ages 16 and older.

It was the fall of 1863 when Confederate artillerymen occupied the summit of Lookout Mountain in an attempt to prevent the Union Army, besieged in Chattanooga, from receiving much-needed supplies. Had they been able to deny supplies from reaching the starving Union soldiers, National Park Service officials say, the immortal words of patriot Patrick Henry - "Give me liberty, or give me death" - spoken during the Revolutionary War less than a century earlier, might have rung true for the South.
