The Hamilton Place Barnes & Noble will transform into a version of the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry on Friday, Dec. 9, as the bookstore hosts a Harry Potter Magical Holiday Ball.

The holiday event was planned after the success of the Hogwarts Masquerade Party on the Friday before Halloween. According to community business development manager Kelly Flemings, more than 550 people filled the store for that event.

For the Magical Holiday Ball, "we are expecting a crowd of roughly the same size," he says.

The all-ages event is considered formal, though formal dress is not required. Still, even the casual Harry Potter fan knows special occasions call for dress robes.

The evening will be filled with music, dancing and other activities. DJ Gene Lovin will provide the music. Dance Tonight Chattanooga will offer ballroom dance exhibitions and teach some basic steps. There also will be plenty of opportunities for party dancing like the Cupid Shuffle and the Wobble.

Flemings says stories and crafts will be available for younger participants, and the B&N Café will serve special menu items.

Amanda Beyer Photography will provide free formal pictures, and Kelcurt Media will film the evening to create a signature video highlight reel.

A Queen of the Holiday Ball will be announced during the festivities.
