Even Frosty the Snowman has to go away at some point - and so will Ice on the Landing, which closes on the M.L. King Jr. holiday next week.

Thanks to a successful initial run in 2014, the temporary ice rink on The Green at Ross's Landing opened a week earlier in 2015 (Nov. 20) and was almost twice as big (60 by 100 feet compared to the original 50 by 70 feet).

There are still a couple of special promotions scheduled for the final days. Tonight, Jan. 14, is Family Night. Kids who attend with a paying adult can skate for free from 5 to 9 p.m.

On Saturday, Jan. 16, visitors can skate with the penguin mascots from the Tennessee Aquarium from 6 to 8 p.m.

On its last day, Monday, Jan. 18, the rink will open at 11 a.m. since school is out for the federal holiday. Closing time is 9 p.m.

Tickets - $10 for adults, $8 for children 12 and younger - grant two hours of skating and skate rental on the temporary rink, which is owned and operated by Magic Ice USA of Orlando, Fla.

Carla Pritchard, owner of Chattanooga Presents, which facilitated the rink being here, says plans are to bring it back next year.

"It's certainly our intention," she says.
