* Lego Night, 6-8:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 18, is designed to give moms a mind-enriching evening with their sons, ages 5 and up. The museum is partnering with Bricks 4 Kidz Chattanooga, which uses the little plastic building bricks to encourage creativity and teach concepts of math, science, technology, engineering and architecture.

If Mom's not available, any adult female (grandmother, aunt, etc.) is welcome to bring a boy to the event. There'll be chances to build static and motorized displays, take part in challenges and munch on pizza.

Cost is $35 for each mom and son pair, $12 for each additional son. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the museum's Fifth-Grade Education Fund.

Lego Night is a preview of the Bricks 4 Kids summer camps to be held at 6th Cavalry Museum in June and July, each devoted to a different themed Lego build.

* Painting for a Purpose, 5:30-8:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 23, will enable participants to paint their own beach scene - surf, sand and flip-flops.

"'Summertime" is the theme," says McKeever. "Getting everyone ready for spring break."

Local artist Coyee Shipp-Langston will lead the session, which includes a 16- by 20-inch canvas, all art supplies and instruction. Dinner is served at 5:30 p.m. Painters should bring an adult beverage of their choice and an apron or old shirt to protect their clothes.

Participants must register to hold a place in the class, and the monthly sessions generally sell out. The next, on March 23, will be a bright field of poppies titled "Remembrance Day," inspired by the poem "In Flanders Fields" and marking the 100th anniversary of the U.S. entering World War I.
