The mouthwatering aroma of smoked meat will waft through the Collegedale Commons on Saturday, Oct. 27, when the second Scenic City EggFest takes place.

EggFest derives its name from a cook-off using Big Green Eggs during the event. Whether you own a Big Green Egg, have been thinking about purchasing one of the grills or just want to sample unusual recipes like smoked barbecue, grilled pizza or baked desserts, Scenic City EggFest has it all.

Visitors will get to sample meat grilled by competitors, taste dishes made from those unusual recipes or sit in on cooking classes, all the while being entertained by live music from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. by Clay Keller and The Fake Spectacles.

EggFest is sponsored by Elder's Ace Hardware, the family-owned, locally operated group of 20 neighborhood hardware stores in East Tennessee and North Georgia

"We'll have 25 cook teams of two to four people cooking on 50 Big Green Eggs," says John Rutter, director of marketing and innovation. "These events are hosted all over the country. We're excited to have brought EggFest to Chattanooga. The net proceeds from all EggFest ticket sales benefit the Chattanooga Area Food Bank. Last year, we raised $2,810 during the event."

A variety of cooking classes will be offered by special guests, who include Aaron Hoffman of Hoff Sauce, Tim Hernquist of Pizza Porta in Atlanta, Chris Grove of Nibble Me This in Knoxville and Kevin Ward of 441 South in Canton, Georgia. Cooking classes are sponsored by Food City.

"We're thrilled to offer cooking classes by our talented roster of special guests this year," says Harold Stockburger, manager at Elder's Ace Hardware of East Brainerd. "We have a passion for grilling and love to share it with the community with a family- friendly event that gives back to an essential cause."

Elder's Ace Hardware will sell the demo Green Eggs at special discount prices after the event. Brand new eggs will be used during Scenic City EggFest by registered cooking teams. Customers may then pick up their pre-paid Eggs after the EggFest between 5 and 7 p.m. that night.

Each Demo Egg package will include a Big Green Egg, a Nest, a plate setter, a 20-pound bag of charcoal, fire starter and two EggFest tickets.
