Hemingway Daiquiri

Ingredients:2 ounces white rum (Robar uses the Nicaraguan rum Flor de Cana)1/4 ounce maraschino liqueur3/4 ounce grapefruit juice1/2 ounce lime juice1/4 ounce simple syrupDirections:Add all ingredients into a cocktail shaker, shake and serve in a chilled glass. To serve frozen (as Hemingway drank them, sometimes as many as a dozen in one sitting), put ingredients into a blender with a cup of ice.

Named after author Ernest Hemingway, the Hemingway Daiquiri was created in 1921 at El Floridita bar in Havana, Cuba, in response to his request for a daiquiri containing half the sugar and twice the alcohol. The daiquiri variation, which Hemingway remarked had no taste of alcohol, adds the tartness of grapefruit juice and the sweetness of maraschino cherry liqueur to the traditional blend of rum and lime.

In Chattanooga, the classic cocktail can be found at 1950's-inspired Robar.

"It's very refreshing and easy to drink on a summer day on the patio," says lead bartender Jordan McHugh. "It's definitely a go-to for me."

As the weather heats up, the Hemingway Daiquiri will make a refreshingly tangy addition to your cocktail library.
