'A Small Act' next in Back Row series

So you want to change the world but don't know where to start? The film "A Small Act" shows that even small actions can make a big difference.

It will be screened Thursday at Create Here, 55 E. Main St., as part of the Back Row Film Series.

"A Small Act" tells the story of Hilde Back and the young, rural Kenyan student whose education she sponsored. She thought nothing of her gift and never expected to hear from the beneficiary, but years later she does. Now a Harvard graduate and a human-rights lawyer for the United Nations, Chris Mburu tracks down the stranger who changed his life. Inspired by her generosity, he starts a scholarship program of his own and names it for his former benefactor.

After the film, author and speaker Sam Davidson, of Cool People Care, will lead a discussion aimed at helping those in attendance find ways to make small but important differences in their own lives and communities. The session will blend humor with real-world issues and applications, giving attendees practical steps for having a positive impact, no matter where life takes them.

The evening begins with a reception at 6 p.m. The film screening will start at 6:30, and Davidson's discussion will follow at 7:45.

Cost is $10 per person.
