Kris Kristofferson makes stop in Hiawassee

May 20th, 2011 by Staff Report in Chattnow Music

Master singer/songwriter Kris Kristofferson, touring in support of "Closer to the Bone," makes his only stop in the tri-state Saturday at Georgia Mountain Fairgrounds, 1311 Music Hall Road, Hiawassee, Ga.

Producer Don Was views the album as a sort of sequel to its much acclaimed predecessor, "This Old Road." Kristofferson has said he likes "the intimacy of the new album" and its "general mood of reflecting on where we all are at this end of life." The show starts at 7 p.m. Tickets are $30 and $40, plus a $2 handling fee. Call 706-896-4191 or visit

Some of the songs on Kris Kristofferson's "Closer to the Bone" were penned relatively recently, while others the artist had never managed to successfully record. A previous attempt to cut "Good Morning John," a tribute to Johnny Cash, with Willie Nelson on harmony vocals, never worked out. On his website, Kristofferson explains why: "I got to that line where I say, 'I love you, John,' and Willie sang, 'He loves you, John.' I said, 'C'mon, Willie, you can say, 'I love you, John.' I guess it embarrassed him. Anyway, we ended up not putting it out then."
