Jason Lescalleet and Aether Jag, two performers known for sonic improvisations, will be in concert tonight, April 25, at Barking Legs Theater, 1307 Dodds Ave.

Lescalleet's sound world "occupies a space between noise, contemporary composition and minimal electronics," according to a bio on the Maine musician. "Using decidedly primitive tactics and equipment (e.g. antiquated reel-to-reel recorders, damaged tape, etc.), his work focuses on extreme frequencies and microscopic audio detail."

His double album on Erstwhile Records, "Songs About Nothing," appeared on numerous year-end Top 10 lists, including in Time Out New York (reviewer Steve Smith's pick for No. 1 record), The Wire (No. 5) and NPR (one of the Top 10 Outer Sound Albums of 2012).

Aether Jag, a.k.a. Bridget Venuti, a recent transplant from Nashville, compiles her textural soundscapes through a blend of her own musical inventions (home-built sequencers, circuit-bent and rerouted riggings) with the traditional (keys, voice, strings).

The show is presented by Flying Fingers Productions, Secret Weave and the Shaking Ray Levi Society. Music starts at 8:30 p.m. Admission is $6 at the door.
