Singer/songwriter Marshall Chapman returns to Chattanooga for a show Friday, Feb. 7, at Charles & Myrtle's Coffeehouse.
Chapman says she has fond memories of the city, dating to her first visit as a teenager.
"My mom drove me there in 1965 when I was 16 because I loved the guitar and singing," she recalls. "Once there, Walter Forbes arranged for Norman Blake to give me the only guitar lessons I ever had."
She returned in the 1990s with her band The Love Slaves to play at Market Street Performance Hall (now Rhythm & Brews).
She is currently finishing up a couple of songs for a movie called "Mississippi Grind" that is being shot in New Orleans.
She also has a part in the film.
"I'll be playing the mother of one of the drifters (Ryan Reynolds), a world-weary blues singer," she says.
